Jim Downing was one of my scout guners in the "Quarter Cav's" Troop D (Air). He was a strong but quiet soldier and possessed no fear. In mid-1969 he was awarded the Silver Star for volunteering to drop blood to a surrounded US platoon. He was from Green City, Missouri, and is buried in the cemetery there along with his father Kenny and his mother Bernise.

He was a great American and I miss him. His awards include the Silver Star, DFC, Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
