SFC Howell began his tour on July 21, 1966 and was wounded on 11 March 1967 when he was hit by hostile small arms fire while on a combat operation. He died after being evacuated to Japan. SFC Howell was survived by his wife Bridget, one daughter, and one son, all of Union Avenue, Tacoma Washington. They moved back to Dublin Ireland and he was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery Dublin. - - The Virtual Wall, October 1, 2014
