A Note from The Virtual Wall 1LT Lester Rogers had prior enlisted service, receiving his commission with Officer Candidate School Class 7-63 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He arrived in Vietnam on 01 Dec 1965, assigned to duties with MACV Advisory Team 39 in Ninh Thuan Province. Four American advisors were killed in two separate actions on 28 Feb 1966. Two were from Advisory Team 39 and were killed in an ambush south of Phan Rang: 1LT Lester A. Rogers, Kansas City, MO (Silver Star), and SSG Curtis J. McGee, Richmond, VA. The other two men were further south in Binh Thuy Province with Advisory Team 87. They were with the 1st Battalion, 43d Infantry Regiment (ARVN) when it was attacked by a reinforced VC battalion at Vo Xu. The two Americans - the battalion advisor and the weapons advisor - were killed in the initial assault: CPT Clark N. Woodworth, Ann Arbor, MI (Silver Star), and SSG Albert C. Roberts, Lawton, OK. Lester Allen Rogers, First Lieutenant, Army of the United States, was buried on 11 March 1966, Plot B-2361E, Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, among other men of courage and integrity.
