Alan's Mom and Dad owned a small store across the street from St Margaret of Scotland Church and every Sunday everyone would meet after church to get a soda and talk. Alan was a very gentle, soft-spoken young man and it devastated his Mom when he was killed.

May God Bless you and your Parents, Alan, and give you everlasting peace.

We called him "Robby". He and I were in the same platoon. I remember him as someone who was just fun to be around, the kind of guy that you would seek out around chow time or whenever there was a lull in activity. He had that wry, sarcastic sense of humor. Always joking and kidding around.

The night before he died, I remember us sitting around, cleaning our weapons, just shooting the breeze and laughing at whatever. The next day was beastly hot as we swept toward a ville through a field of waist-high grass. Almost like a wheat field. It was around noon and well over the 110 degree mark. We were running out of water and troops were dropping like flies from heat exhaustion. Robby was just up ahead on our left flank. I remember seeing him there, then the horrendous explosion ...an anti-tank mine or booby trap ...and then he was gone. Robby just diasppeared.
