The database page for Guadalupe Rendon
I was in the first squad, first platoon, Charlie Company 1/1 May-October 67. Doc Rendon was killed when a booby trap went off while he was on patrol with another squad on "the island" south of Hoi An. My squad went to their aid. We put him on a Medivac.
From a buddy, |
Lupe was four years older than me and used to hang out with my older cousin in Casa Grande where we all grew up. They were the guys all of us kids used to love to hang out with because they were so cool. I remember hearing that Lupe went to Vietnam and also was with my cousin when we heard that he had been killed, I still get the chills. At 17 I enlisted in the Army and although I never served in Vietnam, I served with many who had. In doing so I share with many a mixed sense of relief and guilt. When ever I hear or talk to someone about those times I always remember Lupe. God Bless our troops.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 09 June 1967 the 1/1 Marines lost two men to a command-detonated mine: LCpl Conrad T. Lange, radioman, Wood Dale, Illinois, and Hospitalman Guadalupe Rendon, Casa Grande, Arizona. Although both men were formally assigned to H&S Company they were in the field with Charlie 1/1.
