My brother was the love of my life. He was my very best friend. There has not been a day that I haven't missed him. He was terribly funny and kind. I wish I could speak with him one more time.

On this Memorial Day Weekend I wish to extend condolences to all those who feel the pain that I still feel for my brother. He was my best friend, my protector and a constant source of laughter. I wonder every day if there is someone out there that remembers him besides me. May God keep our troops safe and may he keep us safe as we too are soldiers in this world of wars.

From his sister,
Suszanne Kornick Zanis

A Note from The Virtual Wall

PFC Kornick arrived in Vietnam on 19 Sep 1966 and would have completed his tour of duty in September 1967. He chose instead to extend his service in Vietnam by six months.

According to information received, on 23 Jan 1968 - his 21st birthday - PFC Kornick was hit by enemy fire while manning a vehicle-mounted machine gun. He was thrown from the vehicle and received skull injuries on ground impact. Although the hostile fire wound was not life-threatening the skull injuries were, and he died the following day of complications resulting from those injuries.
