And if I go,
while you're still here...
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
...I will be there.

John was a brave Marine who gave his life to his country. He had a wonderfully wicked grin and was so handsome, not only outside but inside. He was the kind of big brother you looked up to.

He left behind loving parents, Ralph and Dorothy Klump. He was the eldest of 5 which included 3 brothers (Terry, Ralph Jr. and Michael) and a sister (Oma Jean). He was married with no children. He has always been missed by the family. His father is with him in heaven. They are with us each and every day ... all we have to do is feel the touch of a breeze to know they are here.

From his sister,
Oma Jean Marks

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 24 Sep 1966, Golf Company, 2/7 Marines, was one of the units involved in Operation Prairie in Quang Tri Province just south of the Demilitarized Zone. While moving through an unfamiliar area about 11 kilometers north-northwest of Ca Lu, the company came under intense mortar, machine-gun and sniper fire from what was later estimated to be a North Vietnamese regiment. By the time the fighting ended, Golf 2/7 had lost ten men, and Fox 2/7 two more:
  • F Company:
  • G Company:
    • Pfc Cecil E. Dorsey, Du Quion, IL
    • Pfc James E. Graham, Rochester, PA
    • Pfc John T. Klump, Marshallville, OH
    • Pfc Burns W. Knowlton, Pittsfield, ME
    • LCpl Rexford A. Larock, Parish, NY
    • HN Gerald C. McKeen, Sac City, IA (Navy Cross) (H&S Co with Golf 2/7)
    • Sgt Clyde Minix, North Judson, IN
    • Sgt Robert P. Minor, Philadelphia, PA
    • Pfc Howard G. Morrison, Elko, NV
    • Pfc Daniel J. Rusnell, Vestaburg, MI
Four days later, on 28 Sep, Sgt Lonnie D. Sprouse (H&S Co) of Mableton, Georgia, died of wounds received in the fighting.
