A Note from The Virtual WallBetween 22 Sep and 07 Oct 1966 the 3rd Bn, 4th Marines was engaged in Operation PRAIRIE, a sweep of northern Quang Tri Province. 3/4's area of operations began with the Rockpile and continued north to the DMZ boundary. On 27 and 28 Sep Kilo 3/4 fought a series of small-unit engagements as they moved along the crest of the ridgeline. Nine Marines were killed in the fighting on those two days:
