A Note from The Virtual WallA section of SKYHAWKS from Attack Squadron 155 was tasked against a military storage site near Dao Cai Bau Island, about 40 kilometers east-northeast of Hon Gai. As LTJG Fortner, flying A-4C BuNo 152038, was pulling off target after a rocket run his aircraft began streaming smoke and vapor. He advised his lead that his controls had locked and was not seen to eject before ground impact. Because there was the possibility that he had escaped the aircraft he was carried as Missing in Action until 06 June 1975, when the Secretary of the Navy approved a Presumptive Finding of Death. LCDR Fortner's remains were repatriated on 03 Nov 1988 with positive identification made on 14 March 1989. |
The point-of-contact for this memorial is his brother. E-Mail may be forwarded via the Webmaster@VirtualWall.org |
