Dear Uncle Don... Even though you cannot read this ... I hope you will feel it in your soul. You were very special to me and in these days of attack on the World Trade Center I think of you often. I hope and pray that the military of today are as good and strong as you of "past gone by" were. It's all so political, I worry for our safety and our country. I want to thank you and the thousands of others who fought and protected us then. I have heard so much about the whys and wherefores and all the bad and good about the Vietnam War ... but when it was all said and done ... I guess there was good that came from it all. I think of you when I see military shows and sometimes look for your face in the actual clippings. Even though I was young, I remember your gentle ways and the great hugs you gave me. You were an endless smile. I hated the family reunions, except for the fact that I would get to see you again! Thank you, Don, for defending my safety and trust me when I tell you that when I hear anyone disrespecting the Vietnam veterans I will be the first one to defend you - back!!! Rest in peace... Love, Brenda Lee ps. If ya see Dad, tell him "hi" for me and I love & miss him, too.
From his niece, |
Captain Evans is still very much remembered and missed. I served with him and was with him when he was killed in action. A true leader who lived up to the Ranger motto of "Rangers Lead the Way!"
