28 Feb 2004 The only reason why he went to Vietnam was because my neighbor got called up to go. My neighbor's wife had kids, so my brother Tommy went so this man would not have to go but unfortunately he got called up anyway. I am not sure what the man's name was but he was very nice. My brother Tommy did everything for me and my brothers and sisters. We were all in tears when we heard that he had to go. He had the option not to but he did because of what I previously stated. "Rest in Peace, my fellow soldiers" was one thing he wrote in a letter home to my mom. I think he knew that all of them were going to die. A Note from The Virtual Wall The Battalion Landing Teams embarked in the amphibious ships just offshore the northern provinces of South Vietnam provided a ready reaction reserve force and usually were sent in to areas where there was a serious need for immediate combat forces. In May 1968, the 2nd Battalion (Reinforced), 4th Marines, was one of the two reserve BLTs. In the third week of May the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launched their third - and as it turned out, last - major offensive of 1968. The freshly introduced NVA 304th Division and other NVA/VC forces were active in Quang Tri Province, and BLT 2/4 was introduced into the fighting. The BLT 2/4 Marines lost 32 men between 17 May and 06 June, with the majority - 19 men - killed in action in very heavy fighting on 25 May 1968: 1st Amtrac Battalion (attached BLT 2/4) LCPL Thomas W.
