The database page for William Young Duggan
My husband, Melvin Eugene Bowen, served with William Duggan in Viet Nam and in Adana and Ankara, Turkey. We are very interested in finding Col. Duggan's family. If you can pass on any information on how to locate the family, we would very much appreciate it.
From a friend and her daughter, |
I've carried Major Duggan's POW/MIA bracelet with me for thirty years hoping to hear news of him or his remains. I haven't forgotten him or any of the others. My father and brother were there too. I will continue to wait and remember.

I just got Major William Young Duggan's POW/MIA bracelet tonight. I just wanted to say that my prayers go out to his family and friends and that I'm extremely thankful for people like him who went out and fought and continue to fight to make our country and other countries better places.
From someone who remembers. |
Notes from The Virtual WallOn New Year's Eve, 1971, then-Major William Y. Duggan and Captain Frederick J. Sutter departed Ubon RTAFB on a night mission over Laos in their F-4D Phantom II. Their target area was near Na Phao in Khammouane Province, Laos - the Ho Chi Minh Trail. They did not return.Search and rescue operations were unsuccessful, and on 19 November 1973 LTC Duggan's status was changed from "Missing in Action" to "Died while Missing". As of this date, his remains have not been repatriated (current status is available on our MIA Current Status page). Duggan had received the ABLE AERONAUT Award and had been an instructor pilot. He had been shot down once before, on 10 Feb 1965 while flying Skyraiders with the 1st Air Commando Squadron. At the time of his last mission he was a senior pilot with over 400 combat missions and reportedly had flown more combat missions in Southeast Asia than any other serviceman. |
