A Note from The Virtual Wall

The first Marine ground units to land in Vietnam were Battalion Landing Teams 3/9 and 1/3, which arrived on 08 and 10 March 1965 respectively. Both BLTs included an infantry battalion, artillery, armor, combat support, and service units. The 3rd Service Battalion provided logistics support unitsto both BLTs.

Pfc Ray Dollens was assigned to the 3rd Shore Party Battalion (a logistics unit) but was on temporary duty with the 3rd Service Battalion. He arrived at Danang on 19 March and died four days later in a vehicle accident.
