Patrick Regan Diehl was the sniper for 2nd Platoon of Charlie Company. He died while the 2nd and 3rd Platoons assaulted a fortified hill during Operation Lamar Plain. A combat medic and eleven infantrymen died on and around the hill that day. Forty-six men were wounded nearly overwhelming the 27th Evac Hospital at Chu Lai as they were brought in, most of them after dark.
