Doc,
From his squad leader |
Thanks for serving with the finest fighting organization, the Marines. As a hospital corpsman with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment 1 Aug 69 to 13 July 70 I know you did a great job taking care of your Marines. They will always remember you and I will always honor your name.
Semper Fi, |
I went through Hospital Corps School with George, his rack across from mine. When I first met him I thought "What are you doing in the Navy? You should be teaching at some college!". George always seeemed to be reading a book. On weekend liberty he was in his rack reading a book. After graduating from Corps School I lost contact of George. On an warm fall afternoon in 1989 I was at The Wall for the first time. A lot of names raced through my mind but it was like his was calling me. I looked it up and in horror it was there. I got a rubbing and then cried until I couldn't cry any longer. I was with 3rd Amtracs at Marble Mountain outside of Da Nang from May '69 to May '70. I was in county when George was killed. I have shown my kids and grandkids a picture of George and shared our friendship. I think about you often, George, maybe not as much as in the past but I do rememeber. I'm sure there are good books in Heaven and some day you'll have them all read.
