Mark, we laid you to rest on July 4, 1968. I can still see it as if it were yesterday. It was a beautiful hot sunny Louisiana day.

You and I should have been fishing. We would fish and talk about all the things brothers talk about. I miss you every day.

Your little brother,
Bobby

As I touched your name on the Wall, I remembered how you used to be afraid of our baby chickens. I remember the hot Texas summers when we played in our front yard. Then I remember the news that your mom was dead because of the doctor was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. Oh! What sadness we all left; then later it was your older brother Willian who died at the age of 14, but none of that prepared us for your death in the cold waters of Viet Nam. Your letter came as we gathered with your dad; he read it with pride and thanksgiving that he had one last word from you. Standing by your flag draped coffin, it was hard to accept we'd not see you again until that day when we gather in heaven with our parents and other family members. I know your mom and our Granny Cline were waiting there for you, for they loved you so much. Mark, I could never forget you, and I thank God for the fun times we had. I've grown old, but you will always remain a young man. Your sacrifice gave others a chance for a better life. Who knows what your example to those little Vietnamese kids that you shared you rations with has meant to their life.

Love Always,
Your Cousin Claudie
