Dell Claiborne was raised in Seminole, Texas, an oil/agriculture community across the state line from New Mexico. He was a 1963 graduate of Seminole High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and was married. He began his tour in Vietnam on September 15, 1967 and was with the Mobile Riverine Force operating in the Delta along with the 9th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He was assigned to PBR-652. He was wounded in action on January 4, 1968 and died from his wounds on January 8, 1968. He was buried with full military honors in the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is remembered by his community and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Midland, Texas |
