Sal Cemelli was a rifleman in the 2nd squad, 2nd platoon of B Company 1/18 Infantry. Sal was well liked by the entire Platoon. He had a great sense of humor, and liked to joke around with Sgt. Campbell and all the platoon members. Sal died on Dec 8th 1966 while on ambush with his squad around Pho Loi. Of the 11 men that went out on the patrol only 3 were not killed or wounded. He is missed by all that knew him. I was with him that day.

I'm a Vietnam Navy Vet, Weehawken Hign School Class of 1968. I remember sitting in study hall and the principal came over the PA system announcing your death. That was 18 months before I went in. After some research along with feeling guilt for coming home I found out that of all the men killed in action in Nam there was only one from Weehawken and that was you. Since then I have visited the Wall in DC and the Moving Wall in Glendale 1989 and have made it a point to look for your name. Now once again the Moving Wall is coming to Long Beach, California, where I live and I will make that hard journey to view your name. Sal, I never met you but you made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank You.
