Uncle Ben, Many times in my young life I have sat and thought about what The War has meant to me. I often grapple between pride and bitterness. This wave of emotions often becomes too personal to hold myself together. Words can never explain how much I wish I would have had the chance to know you. You see, I am your nephew's first and only son. I was born on May 14, 1969, making your sister-in-law and big brother grandparents on her own birthday! Unfortunately, I arrived four years after your passing, and as if that was not enough, now my dad was over there fighting for survival so that he could live to see his only son. Well, he made it! I would like to believe you were looking out for him and I know at least your memory kept him on his toes. Thank you for being the soldier and man that you were. Your sacrifices will now and forever be a source of strength and inspiration to all in our family. Though the toll of war has had its way with our family, it is an expense that teaches us all how precious life really is. You live on in all of us and shall continue doing so for many years to come. I look foward to meeting you in that great place we call Heaven. Our hearts and thoughts shall never leave your side.
