29 Mar 2008 Cpl Richard Carter was a fellow Marine in the same company and we last saw each other while patrolling an area called the "Mud Flats" in the area of Hoi An, Vietnam. After 41 years of searching the Wall I can now say farewell but not to be forgotten. Rest in Peace, my fellow Marine, for your duties will not be unappreciated. 04 Apr 2008 The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The "last six months have been hell," Carter wrote home from Viet Nam. The 23-year-old Marine rifleman had taken part in several search-and-destroy missions before he was killed in Da Nang on June 30, 1967. He had been assigned to Company B of the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. Carter had attended Thomas Edison High School and worked for a cabinetmaker before enlisting in October 1962. A Note from The Virtual Wall Corporal Carter was killed in a patrol engagement about 5 kilometers northwest of Que Son. He is buried in Site 2210, Section L, Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, New Jersey.
