Domenico Cacciola

Domenico was my cousin. He died when I was just an infant, but I was told that he knew me and held me many times before he went off to fight in Vietnam. Domenico was not a citizen of this great country and could have legally avoided the draft but he willingly went to fight for his new homeland.

I pray that he is resting in peace knowing that his memory is not and will not be forgotten by me or my family.

From his cousin,
Joe Cacciola

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 26 May 1967, a UH-1D HUEY (hull number 65-10089) of C Company, 227th Aviation Battalion, was preparing to launch on a troop-carrier mission. As the pilot was given "all clear" and the aircraft lifted off, the skids caught on a cargo net, causing the aircraft to roll and crash on its left side. A small fire resulted but was quickly extinguished by the ground crew.
