I barely knew Lanny. He was 5 years older than me and lived down the street. He was the cutest boy I ever saw and he drove a motorcycle. I had a huge crush on him. He barely knew who I was but after walking by his house a thousand times, I caught him at the right moment and he took me for a ride on that motorcycle to the local drive thru resturant where all the teenagers hung out. I was in heaven and I thought I would die from excitement. I got in so much trouble when my parents found out (I was 13 years old), but it was all worth it. He was drafted and I went to high school. I was dreaming of the day he would come home and I could see him again. Then I heard that the day he was coming home, he stepped on a land mine and was killed. A little part of me and my childhood died with him. I never forgot him. I am 50 years old now. Lanny, it's been a long, long time. Putting your name on this Virtual Wall is the only thing I can do for you. Your forever puppy love!

Lanny, I finally made it to Washington, D.C. to visit you. I touched your name on the wall; my heart broke for you and all the soldiers. You touched my life in 1966 although you never knew it. I carried my puppy love torch to you in 2007. You will never be forgotten and maybe you got to be my boyfriend after all.
