The database page for Don Allen Boozer
I was new in country and I was at the 90th Replacement Depot at Long Binh when volunteers with O+ blood were solicited. We were the new guys whose blood was classifed as clean, we hadn't been in country long enough to get contaminated. I volunteered and was taken to the 22nd Evacuation Hospital to give blood. When we entered the door, there was a gurney with a soldier laying it and his legs were gone. As we gave blood, I just asked who the blood would be for and he stated Boozer, the guy on the gurney was first in line. Unsuspecting to me I was in the same hospital the next day as I was evacuated to it and Boozer didn't make it. I have always have remembered that. It was a shame that my blood did not help. I know that Boozer was married and the father of a new baby as I heard it. When I searched the casualty data base, there was only one Boozer and the date was right. Since my blood did not help to save his life, may this memorial give life to his sacifice. Photo courtesy of the Mississippi Vietnam Memorial Project |
