I was new in country and I was at the 90th Replacement Depot at Long Binh when volunteers with O+ blood were solicited. We were the new guys whose blood was classifed as clean, we hadn't been in country long enough to get contaminated. I volunteered and was taken to the 22nd Evacuation Hospital to give blood. When we entered the door, there was a gurney with a soldier laying it and his legs were gone. As we gave blood, I just asked who the blood would be for and he stated Boozer, the guy on the gurney was first in line. Unsuspecting to me I was in the same hospital the next day as I was evacuated to it and Boozer didn't make it. I have always have remembered that. It was a shame that my blood did not help. I know that Boozer was married and the father of a new baby as I heard it. When I searched the casualty data base, there was only one Boozer and the date was right.
