Robert Erva Berry was born on September 22, 1947. I do not know much about this man, nor had I even known his name until half an hour ago. I was assigned a report to find a Vietnam veteran that someone in my family knew. I went to my uncle and he gave me the name Bobby Berry, he had known him and described him as a nice tough kid. He had joined the Marines because of a fight he had with his girlfriend. He died on October 12, 1966. He was only 19 years old. I don't know what shocked me so much upon hearing this, but no matter what kind of a man this person he deserves to be remembered.

A Note from The Virtual WallIn October 1966 the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines were at Con Thien (aka Hill 158), just south of the Demilitarized Zone, and were responsible for patrolling the area around the fire base. On 12 Oct two company-size patrols were sent out for a reconnaissance in force to the south and southwest of Con Thien, planning to meet a tank platoon moving north from Cam Lo. It was hoped that the three-pronged sweep could converge on any North Vietnamese troop concentrations found in the area.As it turned out, all three prongs made contact with NVA, but separately:
