Donald Keith Bakkie, the second born of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bakkie, was born October 19, 1947 in South Dakota. He was the brother of Kenneth, Terry, David, and Pamela. Donald attended Encina High School in Sacramento, California, for five years, graduating in 1966. Donald was a member of the US Army, serving as a Private First Class with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). He was deployed to Vietnam in April 1968. In less than a month, on May 12, 1968 in Thua Thien, Donald was killed by small arms fire. He was 20 years old. Requiem mass was held at St. Philomenes Church, followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Sacramento.
